….and, indeed, all of Russia. The battle, fought on April 5th, 1242, was fought between the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights and the Novgorod Republic along with its allies, led by Grand Prince Alexander Nevsky.

It is important to note that while the Battle on the Ice and the subsequent victory by Alexander Nevsky helped to secure the borders of the Novgorod Republic, it was initiated by the Teutonic Knights who sought to expand their influence and territories.

Alexander Nevsky and his allies were defending their lands and their way of life, and their victory became a symbol of resistance against invading forces.

Napoleon, Hitler, and the contemporary puppets did not learn this first lesson, but especially they did not learn what the great Alexander Nevsky said after this tough battle:

Whoever comes to us with a sword dies with it

The Teutonic Knights were a powerful military order that sought to expand their influence and territories into Eastern Europe.
The Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights had already conquered a large part of modern-day Latvia and Estonia and was advancing steadily towards Russia. Alexander Nevsky, recognizing the danger this expansion posed to his people, rallied his troops and set out to meet the Teutonic Knights in battle.

The battle took place on a narrow channel between Lakes Chud and Peipus, which provided the perfect setting for Alexander’s plan.

The ice on the lake was thin, and the Teutonic Knights, unaccustomed to winter warfare, fell through the ice, which slowed them down considerably.

Alexander Nevsky then led his troops in a devastating charge that broke the enemy lines and scattered the Teutonic Knights.

The victory at the Battle on the Ice was a major blow to the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights and allowed Alexander Nevsky and the Novgorod Republic to maintain their sovereignty and independence from the powerful European order. This battle is considered one of the greatest military victories in Novgorod’s history and a turning point in Russian history.

The battle is also remembered for the bravery and skill of Alexander Nevsky and his army over a not easy field of battle.

In conclusion, the Battle on the Ice was a significant victory for the Novgorod Republic and Russia, which stopped the menacing expansion of the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights, giving a signal as a clear message to future invaders, although apparently not well understood.

The bravery and military skill of Alexander Nevsky and his troops demonstrated that strength and that determination of the Russian people that still endure to present day.

The victory at the Battle on the Ice is a testament to the resilience and spirit of the Russian people in the face of adversity.
